Oman: 29% Increase in  Passenger Traffic at Muscat International and Salalah Airports
Oman (Muscat) - The total passenger traffic through Muscat International Airport has increased by 29% to 2,722,987 passengers during the first half of 2010 compared to 2,110,890 passengers for the same period of 2009.

Statistics issued by Oman Airports Management Company pointed out that the number of arrival passengers (excluding the transit passengers) through Muscat International Airport increased by 12% to 925,573 at the end of June 2010 compared to 826,349 at the same period of the year 2009.

The number of departing passengers (excluding the transit passengers) has also increased by 16% to 960,569 passengers comparing to 826,457 passengers at the end of June 2009.

The increase in arrival and departure traffic into Muscat International Airport is attributed to several reasons, including the increase of economic and tourism activity, operation of new airlines, such as, Fly Dubai and Kenya Airways, the increase of the number of flights to some airlines operating into Muscat International Airport and the increase of the number of Oman Air flights and expanding its flights to Kula Lumpur, Ras Al-Khaimah, Al Ain and Dar es Salaam.

The civil airplanes movement at Muscat International Airport witnessed an increase by 30% during the first six months in 2010 to 33,182 flights compared to 25,457 flights for the same period in 2009.

Meanwhile, Salalah Airport witnessed an increase by 9% in the total number of passengers to 212,489 passengers during the first half of 2010 compared to 194,311 passengers for the same period of 2009.

The civil airplanes movement in Salalah Airport witnessed an increase by 18% during the first six months in 2010 to 2,084 flights compared to 1,772 flights for the same period in 2009.
