Sri Lanka's national carrier, SriLankan Airlines has today announced that fresh vegetables have been removed from the menus on all flights flying out of Europe due to the deadly E.Coli outbreak currently spreading in the region.
SriLankan Airlines Corporate Communications Department has said that vegetables such as tomatoes, cucumber, and leafy greens have been taken off their menus as a precautionary measure against the E.Coli outbreak.
According to the Airline, the suspension on vegetables would remain until it is once again safe to serve raw vegetables.
SriLankan airline flies to London, Frankfurt, Paris, Milan, and Rome in Europe and the suspension of vegetables would be applied to food taken from these European cities.
According to health officials the E. coli outbreak in Europe has become the deadliest on record as a rare strain is causing kidney failure in unprecedented numbers.
Reports from World Health Organization in Geneva say at least 16 people have died and 1,624 have become ill.
